Cystic Fibrosis International Congress In Ecuador

The First International Cystic Fibrosis Conference in Ecuador took place on April 3 – 5 in Cuenca.  Dr. Sadeghi was the plenary speaker.  Drs. Sadeghi and Raissi attended representing the United States. Also in attendance were leading medical professionals from Spain, Mexico, Peru and Ecuador.

The main goal of this conference was to raise awareness of CF and share the progress in developing methods and protocols, as well as medicines for treatment of CF; also, to educate healthcare workers, families. medical students and CF teams, including nutritionists, psychologists, physical therapists, GI specialists, geneticists and other professionals in current treatments.

The conference was attended by over 200 medical professionals and caregivers as well as representatives of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health. Drs. Sadeghi and Raissi were greeted with particular warmth in recognition of several patients from Ecuador who have benefited from the services of the CF Bridge of Hope organization.

Due to its great success, the organizers have committed to follow through with organizing the next conference in another 1 to 2 years.
